Real Costs in Real Time

Bargaining Power ® projects real costs:

It dynamically simulates the changes in a work force over time -    aging employees' lengths of service and considering projected    changes in head count, turnover rates, promotional paths and    retirements.

It factors in the interaction among proposals, so each proposal's    cost takes into account the effects of other proposals in the    same settlement.

It lets you define the operational impact of proposals, allowing    the system to derive the costs of a proposal's effect on the size    of the work force, turnover rates, hours of work or productivity.

Finally, you can see results instantly. Alternative proposals,    assumptions and scenarios can be input and results obtained    within moments - an invaluable feature during negotiations.

How it Works

Bargaining Power ® contains five major components:

Input background information: Enter an employee data base, identify economic and operational    assumptions and preferred costing conventions, and create scenarios for the dynamics of the    work force - including turnover rates, internal promotions and projected changes in the size or    composition of the employee population. This allows the software to build the employee simulation    and to take into account the number of employees attaining length of service or age eligibilities    during the term of the analysis.

Enter the provisions of the current collective bargaining agreement: Separated into    categories of pay, benefits, time and work force, and legislated payments, the system contains    tailored screens for more than 50 types of contract provisions. Enter information about pay    progressions, general pay increases, differentials, incentives, bonuses, COLA's, severance plans;    time off at work, such as meal periods and guarantees; time off away from work including sick,    vacation and holidays; health & welfare and pension contributions; reimbursements and    allowances, and legislated payments.

Enter proposals to change the current agreement: Enter any number of management and    union proposals from scratch or by editing previously-entered provisions or proposals. Using the    50 types of proposals, you can change pay, time worked, time off, legislated payments, and    benefits of all kinds. Change eligibilities for receiving payments or contributions.

Create settlements or collections of proposals: Combine proposals at will to create    potential settlements and see the projected costs at once. Proposal costs automatically take    into account all other proposals in a projected settlement - for example, the cost of a pension    contribution that is a percentage of pay will take into account the pay increase proposal in the    same settlement.

Cost and Report: Bargaining Power ® generates adaptable reports that present annual and    total costs and display a variety of benchmark statistics such as average cost of an hour    worked, percentage changes in pay rates and benefits as a percentage of total costs.    Presentation quality reports, complete with back-up, can be saved, printed or exported to    Lotus™ or Excel™.
